It is clearly evident that the Indian film industry is male dominant. Many actresses raise the question about why they are not offered the lead roles in the films if they get to their middle age. They also ask how the male actors still get to play the lead roles even in their middle fifties, that too with a teenage girl pairing them.
Yesteryear beautiful actress Dia Mirza too adds her voice to them. During her recent interview with ET, Dia Mirza called it an unfortunate truth that stories are not written for the female older characters as much as the male actors. She said there are a lot of middle-aged actresses struggling and are not being cast because no story can accommodate them and no stories are being written for them.
Dia Mirza states that it is ‘bizarre’ that a 50 plus male actor romances a 19-year-old actress. She ridiculed the older men’s interest to be getting cast opposite younger women to extend their own actor life.
The RHTDM actress recalled how a senior actor like Neena Gupta had to ask loud that she loves her job as an actor and how she asked on social media platforms to cast her in films.
