In an important update, Apple is warning its iPhone customers to keep the smartphones away from medical devices like pacemakers. Apple’s support page’ notice had this safety information.
Apple warns the iPhone owners that the smartphones contain magnets and radios emitting electromagnetic fields and they may interfere with medical devices like defibrillators and pacemakers.
Apple’s safety notice on Saturday also warns the iPhone owners about the ‘magnets’ in all four iPhone 12 models and also the MagSafe accessories. The new models contain more magnets than that of the previous models, but they are not a greater risk than the previous models, says Apple.
The iPhone manufacturing company warns the medical devices with sensors may react to magnets or radio waves when in close proximity and recommends keeping iPhones and MagSafe chargers at a safe distance, at least 6 inches apart and 15 inches apart when wirelessly charging.
Many health experts have long cautioned users not to hold cellphones too close to implanted medical devices and not to carry the cellphones in shirt pockets.
Also, if the iPhone 12 owners are using MagSafe chargers, they need to make sure that they do not place passports, key FOBs, credit cards or security badges between the phone and MagSafe charger as the magnets might damage RFID chips or magnetic strips.
