Bengaluru’s Last Gangster Dies Of Cancer

Many know that Bengaluru is a garden city but the IT hub of the country has underworld links too. 68 years old Muthappa Rai had presided over Bengaluru’s underworld for over 30 years and this gangster who is reckoned as the last ‘Mafia Don’ of the city, has died of cancer.

According to reports from the national media, Rai was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and underwent treatment at various hospitals in cities like Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru. He was admitted to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru on April 30th and breathed his last at 1.43 AM on Friday.

Unlike other gangsters we know, Muthappa Rai is different. He is educated and even worked as clerk in a popular bank. Yet he choose the path of crime and rose to the range of most dreadful gangster.

In the year 1990, Rai shot to fame with the murder of another don and Bengaluru MP Jayaraj. There are also reports that he had links with India’s most wanted mafia don Dawood Ibrahim. In the late 1990s, Rai escaped to the Middle-East but he was brought back to India in 2002.

Muthappa Rai is survived by a wife and two sons while the last rites were performed in Bidadi.
