Published by

At a time when the entire world is waiting eagerly for a vaccine to fight against Covid-19, the trials by Oxford University is raising hopes on it. Researchers at the University said that the trials on monkeys have given encouraging results. On being administered ChAdOx1nCoV-19, it increased the immunity-levels in the monkeys. Further, they said that it did not show any adverse impact.

Just one dose of vaccine ensured that the lungs remained safe and it also had seen that other organs also remained unaffected. “On being give one dose, we noticed that the monkeys showed less water content in the lungs and that the cells in the respiratory tract also fought with the virus cells,” the researchers said, adding that the pneumonia caused by the virus was also not visible in the monkeys.

Even when subjected the infection of novel Coronavirus, the monkeys which were administered the vaccine did not show symptoms of pneumonia or other side effects. However, the researchers expressed uncertainty over how the vaccine would work in humans. “We are yet to get the results of the clinical trials on humans,” said a visiting professor of King’s College, London.

The Oxford University is planning to conduct trials in Kenya if the vaccine trials in UK prove successful.

Meanwhile, an immunologist from san Francisco Dr Sion Tucker said that they would bring the much-awaited vaccine for coronavirus by the end of this year. It will be in the form of a tablet but not as a liquid, in which every vaccine will be, said Tucker, who also runs a bio-tech company in California. This company is said to have found vaccine for rabies.

He said that the clinical trials of Covid-19 vaccine conducted in mice gave encouraging results and that they would start the trials on humans in July. At the same time, we would also begin manufacturing the tablets, he added.

He also said that his 8-member team, working on the vaccine, would not give the formula to the government as they do not want the government to benefit from it.
