Indian Premier League is around the corner and the officials are busy making the necessary arrangements for the tournament. Already, the officials brought in many changes to the umpiring system and the latest is that the council decided to levy harsh fines on all the teams for slow-over rate.
According to the new rules, the soft signal will no longer come into play, and the third umpire will make the final decision on the same. At the same time, he will make the final decision on the short-run rule too. Adding to this, the fines for the slow-over rate are now going to add pressure on the teams.
The following is the detailed description of the new fines levied by the BCCI and IPL governing body on all the teams that fail to complete the match at a specified time of 90 minutes per innings.
First offense: Rs. 12 lakh fine for the captain
Second offense: Rs. 24 lakh fine for the captain & Rs. 6 lakh or 25% match fee fine [whichever is lesser] for each member of the team excluding captain
Third and each subsequent offense: 30 lakh fine and one-match ban for the captain & Rs. 12 lakh or 50% match fee fine [whichever is lesser] for each member of the team excluding captain.
Special Note: If the skipper leaves captaincy to avoid the third offense & the subsequent one-match ban, he will continue to receive the aforementioned sanctions unless BCCI has in writing about the confirmed change in captaincy.
The 14th season of the Indian Premier League will kick-start in India on April 9th, 2021.
