Leading a team in a high-profile league like IPL is not an easy thing, especially for a youngster like Rishab Pant. The wicket-keeper batsman has very little captaincy experience in the past. Due to the unavailability of Shreyas Iyer, Pant has become the skipper of Delhi Capitals this year. There were a lot of speculations about his captaincy but going by the first two matches, we can assume there is a good leader hidden inside Pant. People already started comparing him with MS Dhoni.
Pant fumbled a bot during the bowling overs of DC in the first match against Chennai Super Kings. He was pretty confused about using the right bowlers at the right time. Using spinners like Ashwin and Amit Mishra to bowl against Suresh Raina proved costly to their team. However, Delhi won that match due to splendid batting performances by Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.
The second match against Rajasthan Royals unleashed the captaincy abilities of Pant. Though DC lost the match, Pant did well as a skipper. On the batting front, he took the responsibility of giving his total a respectable total when all other batsmen queued to the pavilion.
During the bowling overs, Pant remained calm even during tense moments and tried boosting his bowlers. In the 16th over, David Miller had hit two consecutive sixes in the bowling of Avesh Khan. When the youngster seemed to be in a panic state, Pant went up to him and tried to calm him down. Miller got out in the next over itself. There were quite a few moments like this in last night’s match.
Many people are also reminded of MS Dhoni after looking at Pant’s calm attitude.
Here are some trolls on that particular incident in 16th over.
