Two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Government allows Covid vaccination for all above 18 years of age starting May 1st, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan stated that the registration for vaccine is going to open soon on Cowin App.
“Registration for all above 18 years of age to get vaccinated to open soon on http://Cowin.gov.in,” tweeted Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. He added that the vaccine registration portal will be open for beneficiaries above aged 18.
The Phase 3 of vaccination, which allows people above 18 years of age, will start on May 1, 2021. This is a remarkable step in India’s vaccination drive that is the world’s largest vaccination drive.
So far, India has administered over 13 crore vaccine doses so far after beginning the drive in January. As per reports, the vaccination drive in the country has slowed down. The country has administered 89,86,391 doses between April 18 and April 21. It is reported that India’s rate of vaccination has fallen by almost 23 percent since the beginning of April.
The Vaccine production and supply needs to be scaled up to meet the growing demand from May 1st. The Union Government has provided credit to vaccine producers Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech. The government has approved Russian vaccine Sputnik V manufactured by Dr Reddy’s Laboratories ahead of Phase 3 of the vaccination drive.
