In another 48 hours, the vaccination drive for 18 years above across the country would begin but there are many hurdles popping up. Many states are running out of vaccines and due to this, they are unable to initiate the vaccination drive from May 1st. Andhra Pradesh government has made a clear cut statement regarding the vaccination for 18 years above and now Telangana joins the chorus.
Regarding the same, Director of Public Health of Telangana, Dr. G Srinivas Rao held a press meet and added that though the Centre has announced vaccination from May 1st, it would take time to administer the vaccine in the state. “As per the availability of vaccines stock, we will administer it. For now people can enroll their names but the slots are yet to be provided,” said Srinivas Rao.
The director of public health was unable to reveal when there would be clarity on vaccine availability and slot booking. As of April 28th, 45 people in Telangana have received the vaccine jab while there are only 1.2 Lakh vaccine doses remaining with the state. The state is yet to procure more vaccines.
But in a relieving factor, Bharat Biotech company which is the manufacturer of Covaxin and based out in Hyderabad, has responded positively to the Telangana government’s request to provide maximum vaccine to the state yet this would take considerable time.
