In a grim world record of daily Covid-19 cases, India’s daily Covid cases have hit 4 lakh-mark. A staggering 4,08,323 new COVID-19 infections were recorded on April 30, 2021 till 11pm. This is highest single-day spike in the country as well as in the world since the pandemic broke. 3,464 Covid-related deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, 2,97,488 new recoveries were also recorded on April 30, taking the recovery tally to 1,56,71,536.
A record 19,20,107 samples were tested in the country on April 29 and the results were out on April 30. The samples tested were also high so far. Of which 4,08,323 were tested positive. Of the 4 lakh-plus cases and 3464 deaths on Friday, the count of cases and deaths from Ladakh were not included. So, the actual caseload and deaths on Friday could be marginally higher.
With this, the total Covid-19 infections reported in India in April 2021 stood at over 69 lakh and the death toll in the month crossed 48,000-mark. The country has so far reported a total of 1,91,63,488 cases and 2,11,778 deaths till the Covid-19 hit the country last year.
According to data shared by the Union Health Ministry, on Friday (April 30), Maharashtra recorded 62,919 infections, Karnataka reported 48,296 fresh cases, and Kerala registered 37,199 new cases. Maharashtra also recorded 828 deaths, followed by Delhi with 375 deaths and Uttar Pradesh with 332 fatalities.
Meanwhile, around 22.24 lakh vaccination shots were given in the 24 hours until 7am on April 30.
