Cyberbullying: Popular Wrestler Hana Kimura Commits Suicide At 22

In a deeply tragic incident, Japanese female professional wrestler, Hana Kimura has died at the age of 22. It is reported that the wrestler committed suicide due to cyberbullying. Cyberbullying has become quite common but it is indeed a serious issue. Not to forget, young people are vulnerable to this crime. The power of anonymity is making boys and girls harass others online and this rising issue has left many as victims.

Kimura, who was 22 years old, couldn’t take the bullying and mean messages from her fans, critics, followers on a daily basis thus, leading to self-harm. Hana Kimura, who wrestled for the women’s professional wrestling promotion World Wonder Ring Stardom is seen with slashes to her wrist, suggesting she had engaged in self-harm. She is absurdly tough in the ring, but in reality, the girl is said to be super sweet and sensitive. Many of her well-wishers and close friends have vouched for the same.

Kimura posted an apparent suicide note on Twitter that translated to the following: “Nearly 100 frank opinions every day. I couldn’t deny that I was hurt. I’m dead. Thank you for giving me a mother. It was a life I wanted to be loved. Thank you to everyone who supported me. I love it. I’m weak, I’m sorry. I don’t want to be human anymore. It was a life I wanted to be loved. Thank you, everyone, I love you. Bye.”

Also, Wolrd Wonder Ring Stardom confirmed Kimura’s death with the following statement: “Stardom fans, we are very sorry to report that our Hana Kimura has passed away. Please be respectful and allow some time for things to process, and keep your thoughts and prayers with her family and friends. We appreciate your support during this difficult time.”

Fans and wrestlers worldwide have posted tributes eulogizing the popular star. With her death, hope the keyboard warriors, who are hiding behind, realize that their mean words are taking people’s lives. Be it out of boredom, extremely jealousy, for fun or due to peer pressure, there can never be an excuse for cyberbullying.

Today, the wrestling world mourns the loss of Hana Kimura and the deceased was also a role model to many, both in terms of dealing with body image issues and wrestling. She won many accomplishments at the very young age like Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship, Princess of Pro-Wrestling Championship and Goddess of Stardom Championship. Kimura was also ranked as no.60 among top 100 female wrestlers in PWI Women’s 100 in 2018 and 2019.
