The COVID crisis is turning out to be brutal for several families in the country. The virus is not leaving anyone and the second wave is becoming stronger with each passing day. Indian women team’s middle-order batsmen Veda Krishnamurthy hit with back-to-back tragedies. In the span of 2 weeks, she lost both her mother and sister to the deadly virus.
Veda Krishnamurthy’s elder sister passed away Thursday evening in Chikmagalur and two weeks before that, her mother passed away. Her mother died on 23rd April. Veda’s sister Vatsala Shivakumar, 42, was hospitalized last month after an RT-PCR test returned positive. The cricketer took to her Twitter profile to inform everyone about the loss.
“It is with great sadness that last night my family had to say goodbye to My Akka, My family, my world has been rocked to its core. Appreciate all the messages and prayers. My thoughts with everyone going through these devastating times. Hold your loved ones tight and stay safe,” Veda tweeted.
However, these tragedies did not stop Veda Krishnamurthy from volunteering on social media to amplify the requirements of patients. She was seen constantly sharing the requests of the patients seeking injections, blood, and other emergency supplies.
Veda Krishnamurthy is one of the brightest woman cricketers in the country. She made her debut a decade ago, in 2011, and has featured in 48 ODIs and 76 T20Is for India. She was also a part of the squad that played in the final of the 2017 Women’s World Cup against England at Lord’s.
