BCCI President Ganguly reveals IPL 2021 plan

Published by

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was indefinitely suspended last week after a few players reportedly breached the bio-bubble and tested positive for Covid-19. Almost all the players of the eight teams have returned to their homes including the overseas ones.

But what plans does the BCCI have to resume the tournament? President Sourav Ganguly has disclosed a major update that the remainder of the tournament is not going to be played in India.

Speaking to a sports magazine, Ganguly said it is tough to host the remaining matches in India and it is too early to comment as well. The BCCI sources said that they have received invitations from Warwickshire, Surrey and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to host the IPL matches in the England counties.

The IPL 2020 was held in UAE owing to the same situation and the same scene is likely to get repeated. The three England counties are willing to accommodate IPL matches in September which is a month before the T20 World Cup India.

But the BCCI is yet to take a call. More than travelling to England, BCCI would prefer to host them in UAE once again considering the logistics and stuff. For now BCCI is in a wait and watch mode until the situation returns to at least a partial normalcy.
