As India’s daily spike of coronavirus cases still remain below the 3 lakh mark in a row, we have 2,63,533 fresh cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry’s data on Tuesday. In spite of the country’s covid cases fall significantly, the daily deaths have reached the highest mark. India has reported 4,329 Covid-related new deaths, the highest record in casualties so far.
The total cases have surged past the 25 million mark with the cumulative caseload at 2,52,28,996, including 2,15,96,512 recoveries, 33,53,765 active cases and 2,78,719 deaths. India has fully vaccinated just over 40.4 million people or 2.9 per cent of its population.
Though the official count of daily cases began to decline last week, a few states are yet to experience the peak numbers. The cases in some states are still going up. World Health Organization’s chief scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan expressed his worry over the high national positivity rate, with only 20 per cent of tests conducted, as a sign that there could be worse to come. Moreover, the inversely proportional number of decreasing positive cases and increasing fatality rate is equally petrifying.
