270 Doctors Died In India’s Second Wave So Far

Published by

We cannot thank enough our doctors whose duration of duty hours increased incessantly in the second wave of the pandemic. The doctors and paramedical staffs who have been deputed to quarantine wards are working relentlessly in these challenging times. It is also the only profession that demands a high sense of dedication and sacrifices for the noble cause of saving and protecting the lives of others.

On Tuesday, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) stated that 270 doctors across the country have succumbed to the coronavirus infection in the second wave of the pandemic so far, including former IMA president Dr KK Aggarwal, who breathed last due to Covid on Monday. Among them, the maximum number of doctors deaths comes from Bihar where 78 medical practitioners died. It is  followed by Uttar Pradesh (37), Delhi (29) and Andhra Pradesh (22). During the whole first wave, India saw 748 doctors deaths to the fatal infection.

“Last year, 748 doctors across India succumbed to COVID-19, while in the current wave, in a short period, we have lost 270 doctors. The second wave of the pandemic is turning out to be extremely fatal for all and especially for the healthcare workers who are at the forefront,” IMA president Dr JA Jayalal said. It is an undeniable fact that all the doctors and paramedical personnel are not only over-burdened but also are rendering services risking their health/life and even sacrificing their comforts. We salute these real warriors for their commendable job!
