Boris Johnson on the variant found in India:
Boris Johnson has indicated that the planned lifting of the final lockdown on 21 June could be delayed because the variant found in India is showing dominating signs in Britain as well. This leaves doubt whether the Prime Minister will be able to end England’s lockdown as scheduled. Mr Johnson further warned that the country “may need to wait” longer to experience full pre-pandemic freedoms. Currently, a total of 86 local authorities have five or more cases of the Indian variant, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced. A total of 2,323 cases of the variant have been detected in the UK, including 483 in Bolton and Blackburn with Darwen.
