Indian Photographer’s Optical illusion Photo Wins Grand Prize

Published by

An Indian-origin photographer Vijayan, a native of Kerala, won a grand prize of 1,500 pounds and the title of Nature TTL Photographer of the Year 2021 with an optical illusion photo. With over 8000 entries in the competition, Vijayan emerged as the overall winner.

He managed to get this perfect shot of an orangutan, by selecting a tree that was in the water to get the reflection of the sky and the tree leaves. The title of the photograph is ‘THE WORLD IS GOING UPSIDE DOWN’.

He said, ‘After spending few days in Borneo, I got this frame stuck in my mind. To get this shot, I selected a tree that was in the water so that I could get a good reflection of the sky and its leaves on the tree. The water formed a mirror, making the image look upside-down. Then I climbed up on the tree and waited for hours. This is a regular path for the orangutans to use, so patience would surely pay off.’

Vijaya got this shot with Nikon D850 with an 8-15mm lens. 1/400th, f/4.5, ISO 5,000.

Vijaya is now settled in Canada.
