Pfizer Far Less Effective For Delta Variant?

Published by

The Pfizer vaccine appears to be not fully effective on Delta Variant Covid-19 that is first identified in India. According to research published in The Lancet Journal, people fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine are likely to have more than five times lower levels of neutralizing antibodies against the Delta variant.

The research shows that levels of these antibodies that are able to recognize and fight the virus are lower with increasing age. The Pfizer vaccine is reportedly working well with just one dose against the B.1.1.7 (Alpha) first identified in Kent, while the vaccine is less likely to develop antibody levels against the B.1.617.2 variant as good as that of in Alpha. The study also emphasizes the importance of a lesser gap between the first and second dose in the UK.

The research also found that the Pfizer fully-vaccinated people have levels of neutralizing antibodies that were more than five times lower against the B.1.617.2 variant when compared to the original variant.

The study suggests that the best way to make it effective is to deliver second doses and provide boosters to those immunities that may not be high enough against new variants.
