Pad Man actor Akshay Kumar won hearts all over when he starred in a film based on sanitary napkins in order to spread awareness about the usage of sanitary napkins. The actor was even seen promoting menstrual hygiene products in ads.
Due to Coronavirus pandemic spread which has imposed a lockdown on us, it has become a little difficult for the female daily wage workers who are affected by the lockdown to maintain menstrual hygiene. Keeping the same sentiment in heart, the actor has now come forward to support a campaign in order to provide sanitary pads and kits to the female daily wage workers.
Akshay took to his Twitter handle and announced that COVID-19 doesn’t stop periods and hence urged everyone to help them in providing sanitary pads to underprivileged women across Mumbai, “A great cause needs your support. COVID doesn’t stop periods, help provide sanitary pads to underprivileged women across Mumbai. Every donation counts.”
The initiative is led by Samarpan, a group of doctors and civil servants and as per the Indian Express reports, they have “collaborated with the police and civil administration for distributing meals and dry rations for a month to 2.5 million along with 25,000 milk packets.”
It is also reported that the organisation is providing 19,694 sanitation kits in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Jodhpur, Anand, Lattur and Ujjain. Well, we couldn’t have been more proud of Akki.
