Delivery of medicines and vaccines using drones have been under consideration for quite some time and this process has laid one more step. Leading e-commerce giant Flipkart has partnered with Telangana government to drone deliver medicines.
This project has been termed as ‘Medicines From The Sky’ and Flipkart is planning to roll this out in remote areas where road access and other means of transport are difficult. For the precise delivery, Flipkart will be using technologies such as geo mapping, routing of shipments and track and trace of location. This tech is home grown and developed by Flipkart on its own and the above mentioned technologies will be then used to conduct Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) deliveries.
“The Covid-19 crisis has pushed the envelope in the rapid development of scalable and robust technologies and the Medicines from the Sky project is a testament to that. It is a decisive step in making use of cutting-edge technologies for the safety and wellbeing of the masses,” said Flipkart Senior Vice President, Rajaneesh in a statement.
“This pilot will set the premise for the utilisation of drone systems in providing healthcare and product delivery in remote areas and even during disasters,” added further.
The Telangana government will integrate this project into the state’s healthcare supply chain. But the exact date of its launch is yet to be decided. When launched, it will be revolutionary and one of its kind projects in India but most importantly, it would help the people in remote areas to get medicines in emergency cases.
