The 27-year-old ace Indian archer Deepika Kumari regained the number one position in global rankings on Monday for recurve women following her hat-trick of gold medals at the World Cup Stage 3 in Paris. In 2012, Deepika had achieved the top spot for the first time and yesterday, she claimed gold medals in three recurve events — women’s individual, women’s team and mixed team.
The World Archery official handle on Twitter tweetd -“This is going to take Deepika to the number one spot in the world rankings on Monday ”. The star archer was initially combined with Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari to notch up the women’s recurve team gold with a comfortable win over Mexico.
She then paired up with her husband Atanu Das. The couple came back from a 0-2 deficit to down the Netherlands’ Sjef van den Berg and Gabriela Schloesser 5-3 for the gold medal. She then blanked 17th-ranked Russian Elena Osipova 6-0 to cap a perfect three out of three in the recurve women’s section, her fourth individual World Cup gold medal.
In total, Deepika gained nine gold, 12 silver and seven bronze medals at the World Cup. Fans took to Twitter to celebrate the incredible moment of victory achieved by the ace archer. The clip from her winning moment has now garnered many likes and praises from netizens. Some have even expressed their hope for a similar triumph by the Indian contingent at Tokyo Olympics.
