A blast occurred outside the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul on August 26. The Pentagon, the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, confirmed the news.
“We can confirm an explosion outside Kabul airport. Casualties are unclear at this time. We will provide additional details when we can,” Pentagon press secretary tweeted. More details to follow.
Ahead of Tuesday’s deadline by President Joe Biden to end the evacuations and withdraw the US troops overseeing it, huge crowds were gathered in and around the airport, becoming increasingly desperate as some foreign nations cease flights. Amidst this, the blast is certainly shocking.
Earlier, a terrorist threat was announced by the western countries. Stating a high alert, several countries have warned their citizens to leave the surroundings of Kabul airport.
Ever since Islamist Taliban movement took control of Afghanistan on August 15, situations in the country have gone out of the hands.
Nearly 90,000 Afghans and foreigners have fled the country via the US-led airlift since the Taliban occupied the country.
