The World Health Organization earlier said that monkeypox spread mostly among men who have sex with men. This raised a huge concern among the LGBTQ community. Now the WHO clarified in a statement that it is not just limited to the Gay sex.
The WHO said on Monday that anyone who has close contact with someone infected with monkeypox is at risk. “It is important to note that the risk of monkeypox is not limited to men who have sex with men. Anyone who has close contact with someone who is infectious is at risk,” the WHO said.
The health advice from WHO further said that since this virus is identified in these communities, it is possible that the least people get affected by the virus by learning about its spread.
According to WHO’s latest statement, monkeypox can spread from close physical contact regardless of any sexual orientation or race. WHO made it clear that the LGBTQs are not the spreaders of the monkeypox virus.
Any close contact, say touching and being face-to-face can spread the monkeypox virus. Close skin-to-skin contact during sex, including kissing, touching, and oral and penetrative sex with someone who has symptoms can cause monkeypox, said WHO.
