US: $5000 Checks To All Americans Using DOGE Savings?

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been actively firing thousands of federal government employees in the first month of President Donald Trump’s administration. Many government agencies have been affected by the DOGE layoffs, meanwhile, there is a new proposal backed by Elon Musk, to send $5000 checks to all Americans from DOGE savings.

James Fishback, CEO of investment firm Azoria and advisor to DOGE brought the idea of a tax refund check to be sent after the expiration of DOGE in July 2026 funded exclusively with a portion of the total savings delivered by DOGE on social media and he tagged Elon Musk.

The proposal calls for 20% of DOGE’s targeted $2 trillion in savings to be returned to ‘the ~79 million tax-paying households,’ which Fishback said would result in about a $5,000 return per household.

Elon Musk responded to Fishback’s proposal, saying he ‘will check with the president’. DOGE estimates it has saved the US #55 billion as of Monday according to doge.gov. The savings are from ‘fraud detection/deletion, contract/lease cancellations, contract/lease renegotiations, asset sales, grant cancellations, workforce reductions, programmatic changes, and regulatory savings.’

President Donald Trump said his administration is considering a plan to send 20% of DOGE savings. Trump says the plan is under consideration noting that 20% of savings would go to taxpayers and another 20% would go toward paying down debt.
