With OTT streaming giant Netflix announcing that “RRR” is the most watched non-English film on their film as it registered nearly 1.8+ crore hours of watching on the platform, no doubt Telugu people are in huge celebration mode. This says that nearly 6+ million people watched the film. But here’s the catch.
As Netflix is having more subscriptions outside India, let us assume that nearly 3 million viewers of RRR are from other countries. What do they think about the film anyway? While the film is a stunning marvel that shocked even Hollywood’s happening actors and directors, they were all now thinking that RRR Is a Hindi movie that is available with English subtitles on Netflix.
Well, with Zee5 paying the highest amount for Telugu and other south versions of RRR, Netflix has aimed only at acquiring the Hindi version. Provided with the deep-rooted presence Netflix has across the world, surely more people have watched the Hindi version than the Telugu version. That led to a belief amongst many, who are not aware of Rajamouli, Ram Charan and Jr NTR, that the film is a Hindi movie.
With the success of RRR on Netflix, surely the credit is going to Bollywood again, and only those who research more about the director or lead actors might know the truth.
