Superhit, A Sensation In Film Journalism by BA Raju

Film journalist, PRO, and producer BA Raju’s sudden and untimely demise has left the entire Telugu film industry in a shock. In a span of four decades, he has worked as PR for over 1500 films which is a massive achievement.

As a movie buff, BA Raju started off his career handling the publicity affairs of Superstar Krishna. Then he went on to do PR for a few films of Krishna and mighty impressed with his work, Krishna encouraged him to turn into a film journalist. Probably he is the only PRO who has shifted from Madras to Hyderabad along with the industry.

Taking the suggestions, BA Raju worked as film journalist for Telugu newspapers such as AndhraJyothy, Jyothy Chitra and Udayam. During then, Raju developed this interest for stats of films like box office collections, 100 days run and the records set by films. Even now BA Raju’s twitter handle posts details of films that are released about 50 years back and that’s why Megastar Chiranjeevi called him ‘Encyclopaedia of Tollywood.’

This interest made him to float his own magazine, Superhit. Along with his late wife B Jaya, Raju floated Superhit magazine in the year 1994 and it was a sensation back then. This magazine was free from gossips but posted all the latest happenings in Tollywood and in Filmnagar the magazine used to get sold out within hours of being out. Superhit magazine set a new trend in film journalism, we must say.

Over the years Superhit magazine adapted to new technology and now it comes in a form of tabloid as people are having access to social media which is more feasible.

We at Gulte would like to pay our deep condolences to the family members of BA Raju in this moment of grief.
