Critics and netizens are furious over Uttarakhand minister Swami Yatishwaranand as his photograph goes viral on Wednesday where the politician hangs his face mask on his big toe or the hallux of his foot. Swami Yatishwaranand is the minister for sugarcane industries in the BJP and he can be seen failing to wear a mask on his face.
The indoor meeting also has two other ministers, Bishan Singh Chuphal and Subodh Uniyal not wearing the masks. Soon after the image goes viral, it was slammed by opposition leaders, pointing out the state government for allegedly not taking Covid containment protocols seriously.
“The photograph showing cabinet minister Swami Yatishwaranand hanging his mask on foot just shows that he and his government put Covid-19 guidelines… under their feet,” said Qazi Nizamuddin, Congress MLA from Haridwar. Also Congress state spokesperson Garima Dasauni asked what kind of message Swami Yatishwaranand is giving to the society.
Dasauni expressed his concern that bigwigs like him, who are in responsible positions, are not following the guidelines then, how can we all expect people to follow. On the other hand, AAP’s state spokesperson Amarjit Rawat said that the picture shows how the BJP leaders show apathy about the Covid-19 guidelines. He said Swami Yatishwaranand should apologise for his behaviour to the public for his despicable act.
