The NDA government is determined to enforce the ‘One nation one election’ mechanism in the country. This reformative bill was passed in the parliament earlier this week, and it has been sent to the upper house now.
In this context, a Joint Political Committee (JPV) has been formulated to amend the Constitution of India which would facilitate the imposition of the One Nation One Election bill. This committee comprises of the Rajyasabha MPs from across the nation.
Interestingly, enough, YSR Congress’s Vijayasai Reddy has found a place on this 12-member list and he is one of the very few South Indian RS MPs in the committee.
Despite not being a part of the NDA alliance and having no moral grounds to support this bill passed by the NDA, the YSR Congress outfit actively supported the bill. Now, Vijayasai Reddy has found a place in the JPC that was formed to oversee the amendment activities.
The motive of YSR Congress behind this unconditional support to the early election bill is that they desire to have early polls in Andhra Pradesh, preferably by 2027 in order to get out of this hideous situation as the party won less than 10% of the seats in the recent elections. However, the established predicament is that the Jamali elections are likely to be enforced only in 2029 or later.
For those wondering why Telugu Desam party does not have representation in this list, it must be noted that the party did not have any members in the Rajya Sabha as YCP walked away with all the seats in the aftermath of 2019 election. Only last week did TDP send Beeda Mastan Rao and Sana Satish to the Rajya Sabha.
