Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan put forward a new demand before the YCP government to rename the Kurnool district after former CM Damodaram Sanjeevaiah.
In a statement Pawan recalled the valuable contribution of Sanjeevaiah who served AP for two years. “I’m placing this demand before the state government as a right. In case the YCP government fails to meet the demand after the change of government, Jana Sena Party will definitely rename Kurnool district after Sanjeevaiah,” read the statement.
Justifying his demand, Pawan mentioned the retitling of Kadapa district after the late YS Rajasekhar Reddy. Also the Jana Sena chief announced Rs 1 crore for the construction of a memorial building in Sanjeevaiah’s name.
“Sanjeevaiah is a man of simplicity. He was the CM of erstwhile AP for just two years but he provided corruption free governance. When he breathed his last, he had just Rs 17,000 cash and a car with him. It is the responsibility of the state government to restore the legacy of such leaders. Unfortunately successive governments have failed to do so,” added Pawan.
The Jana Sena chief’s new demand should be considered as out of the political equation. Sanjeevaiah was one of the highly respected politicians who served people selflessly and his contributions need due recognition.
