YCP Leaders Cut Off Water Supply to Tirupati Airport

After being denied entry into the Tirupati airport at Renigunta, the YCP leaders reportedly ensured that water supply was cut off to the airport and their staff in the residential quarters. They also allegedly dug up the road near the airport. There was an altercation between Renigunta airport manager Sunil and Tirupati deputy mayor Abhinaya Reddy, son of YCP MLA B. Karunakar Reddy.

Abhinaya Reddy had reportedly gone to the airport to welcome minister Botsa Satyanarayana when he visited Tirupati to attend the valedictory of national-level kabaddi championship. Abhinaya Reddy went to the airport along with some of his supporters and wanted the airport officials to allow all of them to the terminal but the airport manager Sunil denied it, citing Covid protocols.

Irked over this development, it is being said that water supply was cut off to the residential quarters of the airport staff and also to the airport. While the disruption of water supply is being seen as a retaliation by the deputy mayor, the Tirupati municipal authorities said that it was due to a blockage in the pipeline. At the same time, the roads near the airport were also dug up citing repairing works of the water pipeline.

The YCP leaders alleged that the airport officials had been high-handed in denying entry to them into the airport.

Meanwhile, TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh took to Twitter and posted: “Suspension of water supply to the airport and staff quarters is a testament to the YCP’s anarchic rule. I strongly condemn this incident.”

BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP G.V.L. Narasimha Rao also tweeted about the incident, tagging Union minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia. Blaming the YCP leaders for the civic issues that cropped up at the airport and the staff quarters, GVL sought an inquiry into the incident.

Scindia responded to the tweet saying that the issue would be examined and necessary action would be taken. “Passengers & staff at the airport will not face any further inconvenience,” he tweeted.

The opposition leaders said that such vengeful acts by the YCP president and Chief Minsiter Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party leaders should come to an end. Else, there will be no law and order in the state, they added.
