The IT industry is a great source of revenue for a government. Telangana government proved the same by bringing a policy that enables any industry especially the IT to set up their base in Hyderabad or in any part of the state.
In the last eight years, Hyderabad has grown in leaps and bounds in the IT sector and in office absorption space, it has gone past the likes of Bengaluru which is reckoned as India’s Silicon Valley.
In the case of AP, the previous TDP government tried its best to bring the IT industry to the state. Ex-CM Chandrababu Naidu has used his experience and influence to the full extent and he partly succeeded. The previous government developed IT SEZ in Vizag and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITeS) companies were welcomed to set up their office in the beach city.
Indirectly taking the TDP government’s initiative forward, the YCP government led by AP CM YS Jagan has come up with a concept called ‘BEACH IT’ for Vizag. This concept is developed on the lines of Virginia Beach where IT companies were set up along the beach.
CM Jagan who visited Davos last month pitched this concept (BEACH IT) in the World Economic Forum. The state government is yet to develop an ecosystem that can take this concept forward and once the concept is implemented, the IT industry can flourish in Vizag.
On the contrary irrespective of this concept, India’s leading IT company Infosys has decided to set up a 1000 seating capacity office space in Vizag. This office would be a huge opportunity for the locals and Infosys also has plans for expansion in future.
BEACH IT is a welcome concept and hope the state government really makes a proactive policy that encourages tech giants and startups to have an office in Vizag.
