The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to impose salary cuts for all the employees turning up late to the offices and issued fresh orders to this effect. The authorities said that the decision was taken to check negligent and unpunctual employees.
According to the orders, salary cut would be imposed on all employees coming 10 minutes late to the office. The employee unions expressed dismay over the fresh orders.
The government had already begun implementing facial recognition mode of attendance replacing the biometric system in all the offices and now, salary cuts for latecomers only means troubling the employees, the union leaders said.
They argued that a few of their colleagues were being forced to work without any timeframe. They said that they were planning to take their concerns to the notice of the higher officials and urging them to withdraw from the decision.
If there is no response from them, the government employees are planning to approach the higher-ups in the government. Several employees expressed resentment over the implementation of facial recognition and said that they would never accept the concept of salary cut.
The government also issued a circular stating that use of attendance registers should be in practice till the facial recognition system was implemented in all the departments.
The circular mentioned that the attendance registers should be present on the department head’s desk till 10.10 am. The employees of the respective departments should sign in the registers between 10-10.10 am. In the internal circulars, it was also stated that salary cuts should be imposed on all those employees reaching the office after 10.10 am.
The late arrival of employees at various government offices and Secretariat is delaying the official procedures, the government said and added that several complaints were lodged regarding the same.
The authorities have decided to implement the attendance rules strictly in the CFMS wing of the finance department initially.
However, the employees are determined to hold talks with the authorities and come to a conclusion on the issue.
