It appears that YSRTP president YS Sharmila has made a significant decision concerning the upcoming Telangana elections. She has decided that her party will contest the elections independently, opting not to merge with the Congress as previously considered. This decision comes after prolonged discussions and wavering on the possibility of merging, ultimately resulting in no collaboration.
In light of this, Sharmila is preparing to announce candidates for all 119 constituencies. She has personally disclosed her intention to contest from two seats: Paleru assembly in Khammam district and Miryalaguda assembly in Nalgonda district. The reason behind this dual candidacy is unclear.
In a surprising move, Sharmila’s mother, Vijayamma, has also reportedly decided to enter the electoral race and will contest from the Secunderabad Assembly constituency. This decision is believed to be influenced by the sizable Christian population in that area, likely to support Vijayamma due to her son-in-law Brother Anil’s active involvement in Christian activities.
However, it’s important to note that the official confirmation of Sharmila’s candidacy in Miryalaguda and Vijayamma’s candidacy in Secunderabad is pending. The party is grappling with the fallout of Sharmila’s previous actions and the image tarnished by the prolonged merger discussions with the Congress. As the electoral landscape remains uncertain, the party faces the challenge of strategizing for the elections without a clear understanding of their next steps.
