Social media star Karne Sirisha is popular as ‘Barrelakka’ (Buffalo Sister). She contested as an independent candidate from Kollapur Assembly Constituency in the Nagar Kurnool district. A native of Marikel village in Peddakothapalli Mandal, Barrelakka garnered social media and public attention. A few NRIs have voluntarily come forward to support Barrelakka.
Sirisha failed to crack it as she was defeated by the Congress candidate and former minister Jupally Krishna Rao. She stood fourth as she got about 5598 votes. While she showed a lead in the postal ballot votes, she lagged when the counting of votes polled in the EVM began.
Now, the latest buzz is that 25-year-old Sirisha hasn’t taken her defeat to the heart. Despite the electoral setback in the Assembly elections, Barrelakka decided to contest in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to the media after losing the elections, Sirisha expressed her determination to contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Commenting about her defeat, she reasoned that the lack of time to campaign in all the areas of the constituency affected her prospects.
Barrelakka also stressed that she did not lure voters using money or liquor. Undeterred by the disappointing assembly election results, she would like to test her luck in the Lok Sabha election. We have to wait and see whether Barrelakka will contest as an independent candidate or if will she be given a ticket to contest from any major political party.
