Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy iterates education alone can empower youth in the state and hence, lays top priority to the school and college education. Several schemes like the YCP’s flagship programme Amma Vodi, Nadu-Nedu and Jagananna Deevena were admired and appreciated by several educationists and reformers not just in India but abroad too.
In such a situation, the YCP government’s pressurizing tactics to make the private educational institutions yield to the duress of the officials for the CM’s ‘Siddham’ meeting comes as a shocker.
According to reports, the state government had asked for postponement of Intermediate exams scheduled to be held on Saturday, to facilitate Jagan’s ‘Siddham’ electioneering meet in Denduluru of Eluru district.
The government also instructed the private educational institutions in 7 districts neighbouring Denduluru, to lend their school buses for mobilising the YCP cadre to the meet venue.
Devoid of buses to transport their students, the educational institutions had to declare holiday under duress.
The RTC officials also steered off the regulations to divert over 1,357 buses belonging to 11 districts from Palnadu to Anakapalle for Jagan’s Saturday meet in Denduluru. Even the Palle Velugu buses remain cancelled today. Even Vijayawada city buses were diverted for the Denduluru meet.
Significantly, the same RTC officials were asked to deny permission to the opposition parties programmes even when the parties’ requested them to give their buses on hire for TDP’s programmes like Yuvagalam.
When the officials were informed that there was severe opposition from the parents to the holiday declared suddenly, the officials reportedly asked them to hold classes on Sunday, in compensation for the loss.
It is pertinent to note that holidays for Jagan’s meetings is nothing new. There had been several instances during the last five years when holidays were declared for schools to facilitate Jagan’s meetings, as school buses were diverted to mobilise the YCP cadre.
