After the controversial tenure of Hemant Soren, the state of Jharkhand has gone to the polls, and the counting is underway today.
According to the early trends provided on the Election Commission website, this is not a one-sided election, but rather a close contest.
As things stand, the BJP is slightly ahead of JMM. The current numbers are: BJP – 17, JMM – 13, Congress – 9, RJD – 4, and CPI – 3.
Though the BJP is marginally ahead, the cumulative numbers of the opposition alliance are considerably higher.
If this trend continues until the end, it will be interesting to see if Jharkhand witnesses any post-poll alliances aimed at challenging the BJP.
But as things stand now, the BJP must be very pleased with the outcome in both Maharashtra and Jharkhand, as they are leading in both states.
