With elections schedule to be announced soon, political parties in Delhi are busy influencing the public through their narratives.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi sounded the poll bugle branding Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as “AAPda” (disaster) for Delhi, as its government was mired in neck-deep corruption.
Responding to this, AAP president and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal launched a three-point attack against the BJP.
Kejriwal turned the tables, asserting that the disaster isn’t in Delhi but within the BJP.
“The first disaster is that the BJP doesn’t have a CM face. Second is that the BJP has no narrative. The third is that the BJP has no agenda for the Delhi elections.”
Modi accused the AAP government of a series of scams and corruption, during inauguration of a housing project for slum dwellers in Delhi.
Modi alleged that the AAP government was involved in liquor scam, school scam and pollution scam. The AAP government is a AAPda (disaster) for Delhi and the people have declared a war against the disaster, Modi said.
Stressing his commitment to the welfare of the underprivileged in Delhi, the PM said: “I could have built a sheeshmahal (glass palace) by my dream is that my countrymen should have permanent houses.”
Retorting to this remark, Kejriwal said: “It is inappropriate to hear about sheeshmahal remark from someone who built a house worth Rs 2,700 crore for himself, flies on a plane worth Rs 8,400 crore and wears suits worth Rs 10 lakh.”
Kejriwal took a dig at the BJP for failing to keep its promises to Delhi residents. In 2020 manifesto, the BJP had assured pucca houses for all in Delhi by 2022 but by 2025, only 4,700 homes have been handed over to people.
At this rate, the BJP’s manifesto is meant for 200 years but not five, as there are 4 lakh slums in Delhi and 15 lakh people need homes, Kejriwal said.
As elections get near, the war of words between the BJP and AAP is expected to deepen further in the coming days.
