First Time In 87 Years, Ranji Trophy Gets Cancelled

Ranji Trophy is the biggest domestic tournament in India Cricket. Most of the cricketers prove themselves in Ranji Trophy first and then enter into the International league. For the first time since its inaugural season of 1934-35, this iconic tournament will not be hosted this season.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s secretary Jay Shah released an official statement regarding the same. However, the board will host the other tournaments like Vijay Hazare Trophy, Senior Women’s One-Day tournament and Vinoo Mankad Trophy for under-19 boys. Jay Shah stated that the board cancelled Ranji Trophy on the account of the precautions necessary for the safe conduct of the games.

This will affect the players who depend on Ranji Trophy to get selected for the Test team. Now, BCCI prefers the team members of India A for the international team selection. On the flip side, the board will compensate the affected state cricket boards by giving them financial-aid.
