The remainder of the Indian Premier League will start on September 19, in UAE. Meanwhile, the BCCI has given permission for the franchises to leave for the UAE after August 10th. Chennai Super Kings will be the first team to start camping in the UAE as the contingent is all set to leave on August 14th or 15th.
Speaking to the ANI, CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, “We are looking to leave for the UAE on August 14-15 as the BCCI has said teams can leave after August 10.” Most of the domestic players and the ones who are not busy with the international schedule will leave soon. It is unclear whether star players like MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina leave early or not.
On the flip side, the availability of foreign players has become a concern for the franchises. The players of England and Australia are yet to get permission from their respective boards to participate in the tournament.
England is supposed to tour Bangladesh in September-October to play three ODIs and three T20Is. But recently, ESPN Cricinfo reported that the series has been indefinitely postponed. If that turns out to be true, England players may get permission to play the IPL.
The tournament was suspended midway in May due to the outbreak of COVID-19 cases in India. Now, BCCI is holding the rest of 31 matches in a duration of 27 days. The final will be held on October 15.
