Apple WWDC 2023: 15″ MacBook Air, M2 Ultra, Vision PRO

The new Apple event is here. Marking the 15th anniversary of the App Store, Tim Cook welcomed the developers at WWDC.

The first announcement from this event is the 15-inch MacBook Air.

15-inch MacBook Air

11.5mm thin and weigh up to 3.3 pounds. The thinnest 15″ laptop comes with MagSafe charging, two Thunderbolt ports, and a headphone jack. Four colors including midnight and starlight.

15.3-inch display and 500 nits of brightness. It claims to be 12 X faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air. The new MacBook battery life can be up to 18 hours. It comes with M2 with a six-speaker sound system, up to 24 GB memory, and up to 2TB storage.

The price starts from $1299 and $1199 for education. MacBook Air 13-inch starts from $1099 and MacBook Air M1 13-inch is $999.

Mac Studio & M2 Ultra

The next announcement is for the Pro Products. This is the first big update for the Mac Studio.

Mac Studio is getting the M2 Max. The new M2 Max is 50 percent faster in After Effects rendering, 4x faster than the most powerful Intel-based iMac.

M2 Ultra is coming with two M2 Max chips connected.

M2 Ultra – 24-core CPU, 20% faster performance than M1 Ultra, 64-core GPU for 30% faster GPU performance. The 32-core neural engine is 40% faster. Can support 192 GB of unified memory. 50% more than M1 Ultra.

Every Mac Pro comes with M2 Ultra now.

Mac Studio Starts at $1999 with M2 Max, Mac Pro from $6999 that comes with M2 Ultra.

IOS 17 With Messages, FaceTime, and Phone Updates

Apple announced the new contact posters with photos and memoji. Personalizing your lock screen is more advanced now.

New Live voicemail feature with live transcription in real-time as they speak allowing the old-school call screening. You can pick up the voice mid-voicemail.

FaceTime can leave video messages if calls are not answered.

Messages come with search filters.

Audio messages are transcribed.

CheckIn feature helps you give updates on your location to let family and friends know when you get home safely.

New Stickers experience can make stickers out of the subjects from photos. Live Stickets is also available from live photos.

AirDrop goes net level with content sharing by bringing phones close together.

The new Name Drop can be used to swap your number with someone new.

Autocorrect updates to the Keyboard and dictation added now. Also the new writing prompts with Journal.

The horizontal full-screen view when the phone is sideways.

You can now call just ‘Siri’ instead of ‘Hey Siri’

The Offline map support is improved.

iPad OS Updates

Customized Lock Screens are coming to iPad.

PDF handling has new updates. AutoFill on PDF introduced.

HealthKit comes to iPad

Documents can be scanned with the camera and signatures can be added now.

Using Apple Pencil, PDF annotations are allowed.

macOS Sonoma

Safari now locks browser windows, blocks trackers from loading, and removes URL trackers entirely.

Mac Video conferencing introduces an effect called Presenter Overlay, which puts you on top of the content you are sharing or has your shared screen behind you. The video can recognize hand gestures in apps including Zoom, Teams, WebEx, and more.

Family Passwords feature introduced.

New AirPods

Adaptative Audio, Disriacting noises reduced automatically.

Reduces background noises around you proactively.

Apple Vision Pro

Apart from new features added to FaceTime, Watch OS, and Apple TV, an entirely new product from Apple is Augmented Reality.

Apple announces a headset with cameras, a digital crown, and speakers.

You can use your eyes, hands, and voice to control. It is just the Digital content floating over the world.

It uses eye tracking and finger tapping to scroll and select.
