In a devastating incident in Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, a State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus carrying approximately 40 passengers veered off the road and fell into the Sagar Canal in the early hours of Tuesday. The accident resulted in the loss of seven lives, including that of a seven-year-old child, while 15 others sustained injuries.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the police indicate that the passengers had hired the bus to attend a wedding in Kakinada city and were returning from the function when the tragedy unfolded.
Upon receiving information about the accident, the police swiftly arrived at the scene and initiated rescue operations. The injured individuals were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Darsi Sub Inspector Ramakrishna confirmed the reports and provided an update on the situation, stating, “More than 15 people have sustained severe injuries, and they are currently receiving treatment at hospitals in Darsi and Ongole. We hope there are no more casualties.” The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, and the rescue operation remains ongoing.
Expressing deep sorrow over the bus accident, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy conveyed his condolences. In a tweet in Telugu, the CMO of Andhra Pradesh stated, “Chief Minister Shri YS Jagan expressed shock over the RTC bus accident near Darsi in Prakasam district. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. Officials have been instructed to ensure the provision of the best medical services to the injured. We stand in support of the affected families during this difficult time.”
