A huge partnership between David Warner-Jonny Bairstow helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to pose a big total of 202 for their opposition Kings XI Punjab to chase. Rashid Khan then broke the batting order of Punjab and never let them be in the chase. Thus, SRH won the match by a huge margin of 69 runs.
David Warner (52) decided to give a good start to his team after winning the toss and choosing to bat. He, along with his partner-in-crime, Jonny Bairstow (97), played a phenomenal game right from the first over. For the first time in this season, we got the chance to watch the real Warner and Bairstow. They made an opening partnership of 160 runs. Finally, Ravi Bishnoi (3/29) came to the rescue of Punjab and removed both Warner and Bairstow in a single over. After that, the rest of the batsmen failed to create any momentum and got out in no time. Williamson (20*) played a good game in the end and gave SRH a defendable score of 201/6 in 20 overs.
Kings XI Punjab faced a disappointing start while chasing this high score. Their star opener Mayank Agarwal got out in the second over. New boy Simran Singh went back to the dug-out in the fifth over. KL Rahul got dismissed in the 7th over. When they were losing hope, Nicholas Pooran (77) gave them expectations by scoring the fastest fifty of this season. When he needed support from his partner Glenn Maxwell, the latter got run-out.
Within no time, even Mandeep Singh got out in the bowling of Rashid Khan. When the very same Rashid got the wicket of Pooran, Punjab’s defeat was inevitable. Eventually, they ended their innings by scoring 132/10 in 16.5 overs. While Rashid Khan took three wickets, Khaleel Ahmed and T Natarajan took two wickets each. Punjab will next face Kolkata Knight Riders on October 10. Sunrisers will take on Rajasthan Royals on October 11.
