Meta Laying Off Employees At WhatsApp And Instagram

Meta has started laying off employees at WhatsApp, Instagram, and Reality Labs. The layoff is not going to be a mass companywide layoff, but smaller cuts seem to be coinciding with reorganization.

Some Meta employees posted on social media that they had been laid off. The layoffs were at different locations and employees in different roles. Employees who previously worked on Facebook, recruiting, legal operations, and design said they have been laid off on Wednesday.

Meta first laid off 11,000 employees in 2022 and 10,000 more cuts in 2023. CEO Mark Zuckerberg called 2023 a year of efficiency.

A spokesperson from Meta reportedly said that a few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy. The person also revealed that they work hard to find other opportunities for impacted employees.

Meta reportedly also fired two dozen staff in Los Angeles for using $25 meal credits on household goods including wine glasses, laundry detergent and acne pads. Staff are given daily allowances of $20 for breakfast, $25 for lunch, and $25 for dinner, with meal credits issued in $25 increments.
