Army Jawan Subbaiah’s Heroic Sacrifice Saves 30 Lives in Jammu

The last rites of Army Jawan Varikuntla Subbaiah, who sacrificed his life for the country while on duty in Jammu, ended at Narpala in Singanamala constituency in Anantapur district this morning.

Social welfare minister Dr. Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy commended Subbaiah for his heroic sacrifice and saving the life of fellow soldiers.

A large number of people, cutting across caste and religious differences, attended the funeral as the 43-year-old Jawan saved 30 of his colleagues by taking the lead and sacrificing his life.

The Army officials handed over the national flag laid on his body to his wife and mother, with due formalities.

Subbaiah had been discharging duties as hawaldar in the National Rifles.

He was patrolling along the LoC along with other jawans in Poonch Sector, Poonch district when he stepped on a landmine.

Sensing the threat, Subbaiah alerted his colleagues to stay away from the area, thus saving their lives.

Subbaiah’s body was brought to his native place in Anantapur district in a special vehicle.
