YouTuber dissatisfied with platform’s algorithm

Published by

Social media is the in thing and people dream of becoming celebrities, earning the moolah becoming influencers.

Amidst such aspirations, we have an Indian YouTuber who claimed that she has failed in her YouTube career and hence, was selling away all the kitchen accessories and studio equipment.

Food enthusiast Nalini Unagar, who runs online channels Food Facts by Nalini and Nalini’s Kitchen Recipe, tweeted: “If anyone is interested in buying, please let me know. Let me confess today — I have invested approximately Rs 8 lakh in my YouTube channel for building a kitchen, buying studio equipment and promotions. The return? Rs 0.”

Soon, her followers requested her not to quit the social media and continue with her chosen career in YouTube.

Unagar reminded them that she had dedicated three years to YouTube, created over 250 videos. “However, I didn’t get the response I had hoped for, so I’ve finally decided to stop making videos and have deleted all my content from the platform. Online platforms require a bit of luck too, so it’s wise not to rely on them as a primary source of income. Your “shop” can shut down before you even wake up the next day.”

In a separate tweet, Unagar expressed her discontent over YouTube and Google.

She cited dissatisfaction with the platform’s algorithm and lack of financial returns.

She also expressed frustration and claimed that it disproportionately favours certain creators.

Nalini had 2,450 subscribers.

Her agony and confession reveals that small creators on social media are facing problems about visibility and monetization on the platform.
