‘Apple’ is known for its strong stance on personal privacy. But in a shocking development, the company has agreed to pay $95 million (around ₹814 crores) to settle a lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, improperly recorded user conversations without consent.
The lawsuit in discussions was filed five years ago and it alleged that some of these recordings were shared with advertisers, contradicting Apple’s commitment to safeguarding user privacy. Despite agreeing to the settlement, Apple has not admitted to any wrongdoing.
A hearing for final approval of the settlement is scheduled for February 14. If approved, approximately one million iPhone users in the U.S. may file claims, dating back to devices used since September 17, 2014. Eligible users could receive up to $20 each, though the final amount depends on the number of claims submitted.
