With the surge in coronavirus cases, the government of Kerala has decided to impose a state-wide full lockdown from May 8 – May 16. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the lockdown earlier today.
“The entire State of Kerala will be under lockdown from 6 am on 8 May to 16 May. This is in the background of a strong 2nd wave of #COVID19,” tweeted Vijayan this morning. Kerala witnessed a record number of 41953 positive cases the other day. The government has taken the decision in order to curb the rapid spread of the virus in the state.
Already, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and a few other states have imposed full lockdown. Some other states are following night curfew.
The second wave of the coronavirus is spreading like a wildfire in India. More than three lakh people are being affected by the virus daily. India is witnessing almost half of the positive cases reported worldwide every day. The government needs to take efficient steps to curb the pandemic in the coming days.
