Modi Mania Is A Mirage?

The concluded general elections revealed that Modi mania is a mirage. The BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, kept bragging “Ab ki baar.. Chaar sou paar” which means they would win 400 MP seats as there was so much support to Modi. However, the results proved that their statements were completely in contrast to the ground situation.

In Kerala, film actor Suresh Gopi secured the first victory for the BJP in that state. Gopi’s victory is completely due to personal reasons.

For the last three years, he had focused on development of his constituency which built confidence in the voters that he was representing them.

In Telangana, the BJP won eight seats. Except for Bandi Sanjay and Godam Nagesh, all the remaining candidates won the elections due to their own credibility. Modi mania had minimal role in their victory.

Coming to Andhra Pradesh, the BJP does not have any hold on the electorate in that state. If the BJP had gone to the elections alone, it would not have won at least one MLA/MP seat. By forging an alliance with the TDP and Jana Sena, it could win three seats and also get the support of TDP’s 16 seats and Jana Sena’s 2 seats. These seats also add up to the count of the BJP-led NDA at the Centre. These 18 seats helped Modi ascend to the Prime Minister’s position. Modi mania is not the reason behind the 21 MP seats won in Andhra Pradesh.

In fact, there are many candidates in various constituencies who had won as MPs basing on their own performance but not Modi’s image across the country.

In this backdrop, it is understood that Modi mania is not sufficient to make a clean sweep in the just concluded general elections.
