Hyd Alcoholics Paid Rs 10 Cr Fines For Drunk Driving

In recent years, Hyderabad police have strictly enforced regulations against drunk driving in the city premises. Dedicated DUI drives are being held by the police across the city to nab those who are driving under the influence of alcohol.

In this context, it has now been unearthed that a whopping 53,234 drunk driving cases were registered in Hyderabad city alone since the start of 2024.

As per records from 1 January 2024, a total of 53,234 cases of drunk driving were registered, out of which 45,394 cases pertain to two-wheelers while 5,364 cases are related to four-wheelers, and the remaining 2,407 cases are to do with three-wheelers.

In total, Hyderabad police have fined Hyderabad’s infamous mandu babus Rs 10.69 crores for driving vehicles in an intoxicated state. This is a whopping amount of revenue generated from drunk driving tests and also highlights the blatant uncautious behavior of the city commuters.

Based on the blood-alcohol reading the number of offenses, a single case of drunk driving can invite up to Rs 10,000 in fines and 1 year in jail. But this isn’t stopping the commuters from driving under the influence.
