Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle gave an interview with Oprah Winfrey that was aired on CBS Sunday night. This remains the most anticipated interview in recent times and there were many shocking revelations from Meghan and Harry, and one of them is that Meghan once contemplated suicide.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave out intimate details about their lives and also their struggles as royal family members. There is a visibly family rift and for the first time in January 2020, the couple decided to move out from the royal family.
Meghan revealed that Kate Middleton made her cry the week of her wedding to Prince Harry. Markle and Harry said there were concerns and discussions about how dark Archie’s skin would be before he was born. The royal family members at one point even told Harry and Meghan, they did not want the couple’s unborn child to be a prince or princess.
Meghan revealed her suicidal thoughts, saying, ‘“I was ashamed to have to admit it to Harry. I knew that if I didn’t say it, I would do it. I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.” Meghan said her royal life began as a fairy tale but quickly turned suffocating and cruel, with issues raised about race and privilege. Meghan says she was subjected to non-stop racist attacks.
Harry also revealed that his father Charles stopped taking his phone calls and even asked Harry to put things into writing when he and Meghan were planning to step back from their roles as senior royals.
Meghan and Harry also said the royal family receives money each year from the family coffers in exchange for carrying out official engagements, but when Meghan came into the family, things changed for them. Members of the family suggested continuing her acting as there wasn’t enough money to pay for her. Harry further said his family cut him off financially.
Among other major revelations about their current life, Meghan and Harry revealed they are having a baby girl.
