Good Job: AP Govt Ends ‘Bomma’ Fascination

One of the infamous attributes of farmer CM YS Jagan was the tendency to have his image printed on virtually every program related to the AP government. Right from the farmer passbooks to groundnut barfis given to school kids, most programs had Jagan’s photo imprinted on them.

Incidentally, this reached a point where the yearly calendar that is customarily released by the Andhra Pradesh government, every year had Jagan‘s imagery all over it between 2019-24. Every page of the calendar had Jagan’s photo, and also that of the Navaratnalu symbols. The fascination to have Jagan imagery on calendars was overwhelmingly evident.

However, in a much needed, welcome change the new NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has firmly put an end to this “Bomma” tradition. The same can be understood if we look at the new calendar that was released by the Andhra Pradesh government today.

In the new calendar, that was officially unveiled by CM Chandrababu, Speaker Ayyannapatrudu and Deputy Speaker Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, there’s no trace of any relevant political figure.

We only see the images of social figures like freedom fighter, Sarojini Naidu, revolutionary Andhra Bank Founder Bhogaraju Pattabhi seetharamayya, former CM Tanguturi Prakasham Panthulu, and others.

After having seen Jagan’s “bomma” fascination for five years, this new calendar which has a very generic look makes for a refreshing sight.
